Course Overview


A practical workshop designed to apply the theory from the lumbar spine course directly into clinical practice. This session focuses on disc and nerve presentations, irritability management, graded loading, and safe, structured pathway development for people with low back pain.

1. LUMBAR PATTERN IDENTIFICATION

  • Distinguishing disc, nerve root, movement-based, and mixed presentations 
  • Understanding irritability and risk zones
  • When to load, when to hold, and when to pivot

2. Functional Movement Labs

 Hands-on practice with:

  • Flexion and extension pattern testing 
  • Directional preference trials 
  • Safe neural tolerance assessments 
  • Observing trunk control, hip strategy, and compensations

3. Practical Programming & Progressions

  • Early-stage symptom-management strategies 
  • Mid-stage graded strengthening 
  • Loading considerations for return to work, life, or sport

4. Coaching and Communication Skills

  • How to reassure without over-explaining 
  • How to cue to reduce fear and improve movement 
  • Correcting errors safely without provoking symptoms

Structured cases to map: Assessment, Interpretation, Program and Progression Pathway with discussion on:

  • Clinical traps 
  • Misinterpretations
