This evidence-based workshop explores the emerging role of exercise professionals in supporting people using GLP-1 medications for obesity management.
As these therapies become increasingly common, exercise professionals need a deeper understanding of the physiological, behavioural and musculoskeletal considerations that influence safe and effective exercise programming in this population.
This course will examine GLP-1 physiology, the lived experience of people living with obesity, and the impact of rapid weight loss on muscle, strength and functional capacity. We will also explore the behavioural context of obesity management, including the effects of stigma and the importance of compassionate, patient-centred care.
Participants will gain practical insight into musculoskeletal considerations, exercise tolerance, and how to design realistic goals and programs that support long-term health outcomes.
Drawing on current research and clinical experience, this workshop aims to help exercise professionals feel more confident working with a rapidly growing population of clients using GLP-1 therapies.
